We already know that Ghost of Yōtei will be featured at today’s Gamescom ONL showcase, but it’s actually a PS5 exclusive that I don’t want to see any more of.
That’s not because of a lack of interest, but quite the opposite. I loved 2020’s Ghost of Tsushima, so I was sold on this sequel from the very first trailer, but now, after an extended State of Play presentation dedicated to Sucker Punch’s new open-world Samurai adventure, I’ve seen enough. I’m eager to explore Yōtei for myself, so don’t feel the need to have even more of the game spoiled.
I guess I might have to briefly look away during the Ghost of Yōtei segment!
Less than one hour to go!
Now is the time to start getting your setup ready as Gamescom Opening Night Live 2025 begins in less than an hour. Now is the time to nip to the nearest shop if you still need snacks, because we’re not far away from the good stuff starting!
The spotlight is yours Call of Duty
We know that Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is going to feature at Gamescom Opening Night Live, and I feel like this could be an important showcase for the juggernaut shooter series.
Right now, the momentum is with EA’s rival Battlefield 6, after a well-received reveal event, and a recent open beta that was so popular I couldn’t even play at the weekend because the servers were full (fortunately, I played BF6 at a recent preview event already, and trust me, it’s shaping up to be Battlefield at its best).
Call of Duty has been declared “too big to fail” in recent weeks, but I get the sense it needs to leave a positive impression on the watching crowd today to gain back some ground, so I’ll be watching the Black Ops 7 portion with great interest.
Well there’s at least one reveal confirmed!
Look away if you don’t want any spoilers, because we’ve just got confirmation of a new reveal heading to Gamescom Opening Night Live 2025…
Yup, that’s Lords of the Fallen 2 confirmed to be featured tonight at Gamescom Opening Night Live 2025. Technically the third game in the series – both the first and second games in the franchise are called Lords of the Fallen – this will be a sequel to 2023’s popular Soulslike. I had mixed feeling about the game when I played it around launch, but I hear it’s since been updated into very good shape.
We can (probably) expect to see Mr. Bond today
One rumored game that I think we can be confident will feature at Gamescom Opening Night Live is 007: First Light. My colleague Darragh Murphy is on the scene in Germany (I swear I’m not jealous…), and notes that there are plenty of signs that Mr. Bond is going to have a big presence at the show.
This upcoming action-adventure title from Hitman developer IO Interactive was teased back in 2020 and formally revealed at the Sony State of Play earlier this summer. It’s set to be released in 2026, so Gamescom seems like the perfect place to showcase more of this first AAA James Bond game in 13 years.
Hello! Welcome to Tom’s Guide’s live coverage of Gamescom Opening Night Live 2025, it’s going to be a packed showcase running for a whole two hours, and we can expect to see plenty of new reveals as well as insights into some games we can’t wait to play in the rest of 2025, and beyond!
