A Fancy Power Strip For Clean Desks

Ultimately, the Genki Moonbase 7-in-1 charger is just a fancy AC power strip. That’s not to say its wide-space outlets and powerful USB-C ports don’t work well—because they do. However, this product won’t be money well spent unless you can’t get enough of its bold design.

The Design and Features Are One and the Same

Although the best reason to buy the Moonbase Supercharger is for its bold design, that doesn’t mean it’s a vain product. As mentioned, the widely spaced AC outlets are helpful to let you plug in any kind of charger, no matter its bulk.

Of course, the outlets changing colors don’t do anything for the functionality, per se, but it looks cool. That’s the thesis of the Moonbase. Look good while being ultra-powerful.

The circle next to the power cable is how you change the light color. It looks like a button but doesn’t actually move. It just needs a tap. In fact, you can almost swipe or brush your finger over it to change the color, too.

There are a few solid color choices that each breathe and pulse. There’s also a rotating color option and the ability to turn the light off. My only problem with the light is that I didn’t think the orange color matched the cord and screw color well enough.

The three-outlet power strip is heavy-duty and feels well-built. It’s not the most compact device of this type, but for having seven ways to provide power, it’s also not overly bulky thanks to its use of GaN tech.

Measuring 7.72 x 2.76 x 2.36 inches should be reasonable for most people’s desks. I have a small work surface and didn’t have any trouble making it fit. Rounding out the design is a braided cable with an angled plug.

There’s Plenty of Charging Power Under The Hood

The AC outlets are the most visible, but the four USB-C ports might be more interesting. They provide a direct way to charge a host of devices. There are some things to know about them.

If you have one or two devices plugged into the USB-C ports, then you can get the maximum 140W of power from the first port—assuming wattage-supported cables. If you’re using three or four of the ports, then the first one drops down to 100W.

Each port is labeled with its max output. Hopefully, people will understand that the labeled wattage isn’t guaranteed performance speed. With all the ports filled up, you’re looking at 100W from the first two and 20W from the last two, for a total of 240W of total power.

There are all kinds of output combinations, but in general, the first two—left to right—are the more powerful ports, and the other ones are less powerful. Still, 30W will charge an iPhone 16 at near peak speed.

Should You Buy the Genki Moonbase Supercharger?

The Genki Moonbase 7-in-1 charger is nearly perfect at what it does. The AC outlets are well-spaced, the lights are neat, and there are plenty of USB-C ports with power. Is it worth its $120 retail price? It’s hard to argue that it is for the average person.

Then again, a USB hub like the Anker Prime 250W runs around $200. These kinds of products are for people curating their desks and workspaces. This is not the device to shove behind an entertainment center. So, if the Moonbase’s design speaks to your aesthetic, it’s a solid purchase. If it doesn’t, then no amount of features will make it the right product for you.
