Hyundai’s high-performance N division is preparing to take its next bold step into the electric era, and enthusiasts are watching closely. Following the success of the Ioniq 5 N, the upcoming Ioniq 6 N promises to blend the sleek styling of the standard sedan with the power, handling, and excitement that define the brand’s performance lineup.
While Hyundai hasn’t revealed full details, early reports and testing footage hint at significant upgrades. Expect dual-motor all-wheel drive, enhanced battery management for repeatable track performance, and the sharp steering and chassis tuning that have become N trademarks. Engineers are also likely to incorporate advanced cooling systems and clever software to maintain power during aggressive driving.
With EV performance heating up across the industry, the Ioniq 6 N aims to prove that electric sedans can deliver the same visceral thrills as their gas-powered counterparts. Here’s what we know so far about one of the most anticipated performance EVs on the horizon.
In order to give you the most up-to-date and accurate information possible, the data used to compile this article was sourced from various manufacturer websites and other authoritative sources.
Hyundai Will Add the Ioniq 6 N For the 2026 Model Year
Hyundai’s N division has been pumping out banger after banger, from the affordable boy-racer Elantra N to the incredibly clever Ioniq 5 N. The Korean brand has announced that the Ioniq 6 sedan will also be receiving the N treatment for the 2026 model year, something that we’re incredibly excited for.
Changes For 2026
Obviously, the N model will be totally new for the 2026 model year, but it will be released along with a refresh for the Ioniq 6 electric sedan. These changes include a sleeker front fascia, with smaller lighting elements and new wheel designs. The interior also gets an overhaul, with the steering wheel being changed along with the center console. The materials on the door panel are also getting an upgrade.
The N model will obviously benefit from all of these updates, but will also feature a number of unique styling elements. It sits on a wider stance, features a large rear wing, and features a number of unique aesthetic elements on the inside.
2026 Hyundai Ioniq 6 N Price
Hyundai hasn’t yet released an official price for the Ioniq 6 N, or for the updated base model either. However, there are some inferences we can make to estimate pricing. If we take a look at the difference between the regular Ioniq 5 trims and the N model, as well as adjusting slightly for yearly increases, we can make an educated assumption that the Ioniq 6 N will cost you somewhere around $60,000.
Where competition at this price point used to be sparse, there are a couple of key players nowdays. The BMW i4 and the Dodge Charger EV are the Ioniq 6 N’s main rivals. We think, though, that for the money the Ioniq 6 N will deliver a much more performance-oriented experience.
The 2026 Ioniq 6 N Is Designed to Be a Track Weapon
Hyundai’s N division has done a fantastic job at creating cars that are designed to dominate at the track. The Ioniq 6 has already received a lot of praise for being an enjoyable EV behind the wheel, and the N model will kick that up a notch. Hyundai promises a sedan that will feel as much at home on your daily commute as it will clipping apexes.
Performance Specifications
- Dual-Motor
- All-Wheel Drive
- 641 Horsepower
- 3.2 Second 0-60 MPH (EST)
The Ioniq 6 N rides on the same E-GMP as a lot of Hyundai and Kia’s performance models, alongside models like the Ioniq 5 N and the Kia EV6 GT. The powertrain found in the Ioniq 6 N is said to be the same as the one in the Ioniq 5 N, meaning its a dual-motor setup with standard all-wheel drive.
Just like its crossover sibling, the Ioniq 5 N electric sedan will make 601 horsepower all of the time. However, the N Grin Boost feature can temporarily boost output up to a total of 641 horsepower. The all-wheel drive system allows you to distribute a lot of that power to either the front or the rear wheels, depending on your settings.
Hyundai estimates that this setup will allow the performance sedan to rocket to 60 miles per hour from a standstill in 3.2 seconds. However, Hyundai is often pretty conservative with their estimates. The Ioniq 5 N gets up to 60 in around three seconds, and we expect this EV will be a little bit quicker. Its top speed is rated to be 160 miles per hour.
The Ioniq 6 N Is All About Fun
- Simulated gear shifts
- Simulated engine sounds
- Dedicated drift mode
Something that has been the center of a lot of controversy is Hyundai’s N e-Shift system. This system uses torque control and jolts of power to simulate the feel of gear changes when engaged. You use wheel-mounted paddle shifters to change “gears”.
Alongside this, the sound system will pump artificial sounds into the cabin. There are three profiles confirmed so far, Ignition, Evolution, and Lightspeed. Ignition will emulate a gas-powered car, Evolution is a nod to earlier concepts by the Korean brand, and Lightspeed creates a more futuristic science-fiction-inspired noise.
Aerodynamic Styling and a Unique Suspension
As is obvious just from looking at it, the Ioniq 6 N is much more aggressively styled than its non-N siblings. Everything from the widened fenders to the rear wing is all functional. As well as helping to improve stability, all of these changes result in a drag coefficient of 0.27, which is impressively low compared to other electric sedans.
As well as its aesthetic improvements, the N also gets a pretty clever suspension setup. Hyundai has aimed for a suspension geometry and chassis design that strikes a good balance between ride comfort and stability through corners. New ECS dampers help in this mission, able to adjust damping force on the fly based on driving conditions.
An 84-kWh Battery Pack Powers the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N
A big factor when it comes to any electric vehicle is its battery pack. Range is perhaps one of the biggest factors people consider before buying an EV. The N model gets a boost to battery capacity over the base Ioniq 5, as well as a number of upgrades that aim to boost efficiency and performance around the track.
Capacity and Range
The Ioniq 6 N features an 84 kWh battery pack, larger than the 77.4 kWh pack found in the most expensive versions of the regular Ioniq 6 sedan. This is the same battery pack that powers the Ioniq 5 N, where it is good for a total of 221 miles. We reckon that the performance sedan will be a little more efficient and may edge out a couple more miles.
The battery can charge on a DC connection at up to 238 kW. There is also an Endurance mode, which Hyundai says allows for around 20 minutes of track time, after which you can recharge it for 20 minutes to get yourself another 20 minutes on the track.
N Performance Thermal Management
The battery system in the Ioniq 6 N is a specially engineered system, specifically designed for performance cars. The system is capable of altering the thermal characteristics of the battery on the fly, depending on how you’re driving, in order to keep it operating at the optimal battery temperature.
What This Performance Sedan Means For the Future of Hyundai N Cars
Hyundai has been consistently expanding its N portfolio over the last couple of years, testing the waters in just about every segment. From the i30 N hatchback to the Kona N crossover, they continue to try new things. The Ioniq 5 N is the second EV and the second sedan in Hyundai’s lineup to get the N treatment and showcases the brand’s dedication to making affordable performance cars.
The Ioniq 6 N is a Herald For a New Era
Hyundai’s Ioniq 5 N is an impressive car, but it is a small crossover and was definitely a soft launch for electric N cars. We feel that the Ioniq 6 N is a better representation of what the brand is chasing. They see that electrification is the future, and they’ve found a way to make it fun. The sleek sedan takes things further by being even better prepared for track weekends. It takes a lot to get enthusiasts excited about an electric car, but Hyundai manages to keep the ball rolling into a new and unknown era.
