Millions of Aussies can now access ‘hyperfast’ internet speeds, thanks to a massive update to the NBN speed tiers. One new tier — NBN 500 — is shaping up to be Australia’s most popular pick, and one provider is now throwing its hat in the ring, offering a sweet deal from the get-go.
Dodo is an Aussie-based internet, mobile and energy provider. It operates via the Vocus Network, leveraging its infrastructure to provide internet services. The network also supplies fibre for other telcos, like iPrimus and Tangerine.
As of today (October 1), Dodo has the cheapest NBN 500 plan for the first six months, at just AU$62.99p/m. This plan was a recent upgrade to the 500Mbps tier, only porting over to turbocharged speeds for new and existing customers overnight.
You’ll need to get in quick to score this deal, though — Dodo’s attractive outlay will go extinct on October 28, 2025.
Now it’s worth talking about speed claims here, as no provider can accurately provide sufficient speed data for the tier. This is due to its infancy, and it may take a few months for such data to be collected. However, with a 500Mbps plan, you and the whole clan will be entertained, with more than enough internet to power multiple devices, 8K streams, work calls and more, all at the same time.
That being said, if you’re currently on a 100Mbps FTTP or HFC plan, you can reasonably expect up to 5x the download speeds you’re currently getting — and in most cases, for the same price. Across the providers we monitor, all have kept the same ongoing prices for NBN 500 plans, including Dodo. But this flightless bird has a leg up on the competition, offering a cheaper outlay than competitors like SpinTel, Mate and even TPG.
When it comes to inclusions, Dodo’s plan works on a no-lock-in contract basis and has unlimited data. You can also bundle a mobile plan, an energy plan (or both) alongside your internet, simplifying your utilities into one bill.
It’s also worth mentioning that Dodo’s plans don’t come with a modem included, but you can purchase one for AU$149.90 upfront, or pay in AU$6.50p/m instalments over 24 months. If you’re keen on having one of the best Wi-Fi mesh systems, or shopping for a better deal when this offer ends, we’d recommend BYO modem. You can check out our top NBN modem recommendations here.
