Samsung’s new headset has an incredible 4K Micro-OLED resolution, making everything more clear than ever before.
Samsung is jumping into the VR space with the new Galaxy XR headset. While the technical specifications of the Galaxy XR are incredibly compelling on their own, the sheer number of premium subscriptions and full games bundled for free is the real selling point.
Samsung has equipped the Galaxy XR with a Micro-OLED display with 3,552 x 3,840 resolution per eye, totaling 27 million pixels. That’s a massive amount of visual fidelity, and the 6.3-micron pixel pitch should translate into visuals that are incredibly sharp. The display supports multiple refresh rates, including 60Hz, 72Hz, and a default of 90Hz, giving you a smooth and comfortable experience.
For color accuracy, the display hits an impressive 95% of the DCI-P3 color gamut, which is excellent for media consumption. The field of view is also quite generous, offering 109 degrees horizontally and 100 degrees vertically.
Samsung is bundling an incredible amount of premium services and full games with the purchase of the Galaxy XR, and the total value is substantial.
You receive 12 months of Google AI Pro on the house, which has a stated value of almost $240. If you’re a sports fan, you are getting the full game NFL PRO ERA, and perhaps even more impressively, the NBA League Pass for the entire 2025/2026 season, valued at $109.99.
Beyond sports, productivity and entertainment subscriptions are covered. You get 12 months of YouTube Premium, valued at nearly $168, and 12 months of Google Play Pass, which is great for mobile gaming and apps. Creative buyers will appreciate the 12 months of Project Pulsar from Adobe. Even wellness is covered with 12 months of Calm Premium. Plus, there is a deal for YouTube TV, offering three months for only $1 per month. When you add in the full download of the ASTEROID game, this bundle is simply massive.
Powering all this visual data is the Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 Platform, paired with a solid 16 GB of memory and 256 GB of storage. This is a powerful chipset that will be able to handle complex spatial computing tasks and high-resolution video decoding. The Galaxy XR can also handle UHD 8K video playback at 60 frames per second, supporting standards like HDR10 and HLG. You also get Wi-Fi 7 connectivity, which is a fantastic inclusion for low-latency streaming and high-bandwidth applications.
The headset comes with two high-resolution pass-through cameras, six world-facing tracking cameras, and four eye-tracking cameras. The device even supports Iris recognition, which lets users unlock the device quickly and enter passwords in certain applications.
The device weighs in at 1.20 lb with the forehead cushion attached. You can expect up to two hours of general use, or up to 2.5 hours if you’re just watching video content. This is standard for current-generation XR headsets, and thankfully, you can continue using the Galaxy XR while it’s plugged in and charging.
You can get this for $1800 from the official storefront, or $75 a month.
