With the countdown beginning for Apple’s upcoming ‘Awe Dropping’ event next month, it’s only a matter of time before the iPhone 17 lineup is revealed. This year’s batch of iPhones could be the most intriguing in years, thanks primarily to the rumors about an iPhone 17 Air being a new addition. However, there’s a pressing matter surrounding the prices for these new models.
There’s been plenty of leaks about what new hardware changes are coming to them, like how the iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max are getting an upgraded 48MP telephoto camera — or how the iPhone 17 Air is tipped to be as thin as 5.5mm. Considering how Apple hasn’t dramatically raised prices on its iPhones in years, this year could be different.
We’ll look at all the iPhone 17 rumors and tell you how much you might end up paying for them.
iPhone 17 possible price
It’s been a long time since the base iPhone flagship has seen a price hike. Apple’s kept it at $799 ever since the iPhone 12. That’s a long stretch and with the introduction of the iPhone 16e earlier this year, it could be one of many reasons why Apple might increase the price of the iPhone 17.
Towards the end of last year, there was a report hinting at price increases across the board for all iPhone 17 models — while a later report in July indicated a $50 increase. That means the base iPhone 17, presumably with 128GB of storage, would end up costing $849. This calculates to about a 6.76% increase from the previous model, which isn’t too bad when you think about that figure.
iPhone 17 Pro possible price
When most people think of premium iPhones, the $999 ‘Pro’ models are often what people think about. Ever since the introduction of the iPhone X back back in 2018, $999 has been the de facto price of most premium flagship phones — but the iPhone 17 Pro is tipped to go up to $1,049.
This comes out to a 5.01% increase over the iPhone 16 Pro Max. We also suspect that Apple will keep its starting storage at 128GB.
iPhone 17 Pro Max possible price
The biggest iPhone in Apple’s lineup has always been the most expensive. That title belongs to the Pro Max, which first came onto the scene in 2019 with the iPhone 11 Pro Max. Needless to say, it was a radical departure with its design, but it upped the ante by costing $1,099. Apple would then increase the price to $1,199 with the iPhone 15 Pro Max, and maintain it with the most recent iPhone 16 Pro Max.
Unlike the iPhone 16 Pro, Apple graces the iPhone 16 Pro Max with double the storage capacity at 256GB. For the iPhone 17 Pro Max, it’s anticipated going up in price to $1,249 — roughly a 4.17% price hike. Again, that’s not too shabby given how this top-of-the-line model is tipped to get a new 48MP telephoto camera, two-tone color redesign, A19 Pro chip, and more.
iPhone 17 Air possible price
Finally, there’s the unknown of the bunch. Rumors about an iPhone 17 Air have been rampant, and given how it’s tipped to bring a more refined, thinner design unlike anything we’ve seen from Apple before, it could very well impact the way Apple prices all of its iPhone 17 models.
Ideally, it would replace the iPhone 16 Plus position in the lineup — which would effectively put it at $899. However, that would probably rise to $949 given the price hike rumors that the entire lineup is tipped to get. Unfortunately it’s unlikely this will happen when you look at the cost of the Galaxy S25 Edge.
Samsung’s slim flagship phone fetches for $1,099, so a price similar to that would match up well for the iPhone 17 Air. This would allow it to fit in between the iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max. Other price rumors hint at a much higher price, one that could even exceed the cost of the iPhone 17 Pro Max.
If Apple ends up going this route, it might have a tough time convincing people it’s worth the money — especially around its camera and battery life performance. If the Galaxy S25 Edge is any indication, those are two big areas where it underperformed.
