Google Fi is getting some neat upgrades that will actually make your life easier

While Google Fi Wireless doesn’t have the same name recognition as Verizon, AT&T, or T-Mobile, that doesn’t mean the tech giant isn’t making major moves to change that.

Today, Google announced a set of new upgrades for the telecommunications service. And while they’re AI-powered, the features do seem genuinely useful and are designed to actually make your life easier.

As announced via a post on Google’s The Keyword blog, the company announced multiple new features to its Google Fi phone plans that are designed to solve common wireless problems. First up, this update also introduced a new interface that brings full RCS support to web calls and messages, allowing users to send high-resolution photos and videos, text, and check voicemails from any computer or tablet without needing their phone nearby.

Google is also expanding the availability of its Auto Connect+ feature, which is currently available for Pixel 5a and above. The feature automatically connects your phone to premium Wi-Fi networks when cellular coverage is weak, helping ensure faster data speeds and more reliable connections in crowded places like airports and shopping malls.

Google claims that Auto Connect+ makes the connection twice as reliable as using the cellular network alone, and it automatically encrypts your online activity for added security. The feature is expanding to millions of locations, which include major airports like LAX and JFK. The best part is that the feature works automatically and costs no extra fee.

Now, we all know how challenging it can be to take calls in noisy environments. Similar to how so many video conferencing apps use noise-canceling technology, Google Fi is introducing AI-enhanced call quality that automatically filters out background noise and clarifies voices, making conversations sound much clearer and more natural. The feature works automatically, and will be available in the coming weeks.

Additionally, the Google Fi app is also introducing personalized AI-poweres summaries to make monthly bills a lot simpler to understand. The summaries will explain all the monthly chargers, and how any recent plan adjustments will affect future costs. This way, you won’t need to spend an hour talking to a support center representative.

Finally, all of these features come with a sweet limited-time promotion for new subscribers. The deal gives new Google Fi subscribers 50% off for 15 months when they bring their own phone and sign up for the Unlimited Essentials or Unlimited Standard Plan, making it easier than ever to try out the upgraded service. All the upgrades above are set to hit devices in December.
