How to Enable the God Folder on Windows 11

If you’ve been using Windows for quite some time now, then you must have heard about God Mode. Don’t worry if you haven’t heard about it before, as I will share everything about Windows God Mode and how it completely changed the way I use my Windows PC.

What Is God Mode in Windows, and Why Should You Use It?

In many games, such as GTA, you have the option to enter a cheat code to access all the actions you can perform in the game. In some other games, you can activate God Mode to gain unlimited powers. God Mode in Windows works in much the same way.

When you enter God Mode in Windows, you get access to all the management tools and settings of your computer in one place. So, is God Mode some kind of setting that you need to enable, you may ask? No, it’s not. In fact, God Mode refers to a folder that contains all those management tools and settings.

Interestingly, “God Mode” isn’t the official name of the folder, but since it has become popular and is quite easy to remember, people refer to it by this name. The official name of the folder is the Windows Master Control Panel shortcut.

Also, because of the name God Mode, many people might assume that creating this folder will grant them special rights or powers. Unfortunately, that isn’t true. The only purpose of creating the God Mode folder is to gain access to all the Control Panel items and their controls in one place.

You see, there are various settings in the Control Panel that are buried under different options. If you haven’t used the Control Panel much, searching for those settings can turn out to be a tiring process.

Even though Microsoft is slowly migrating Control Panel settings to the Settings app, there is still a long list of settings that are only available in the Control Panel. With the help of God Mode, you will be able to access all those settings quickly instead of going through different navigations and pages in the Control Panel to search for them.

You can also search for settings directly in the Start menu, but the issue with this is that you need to know what you are looking for. In God Mode, however, you just need to navigate to the section containing the settings you want to access. For instance, if you want to add a Bluetooth device, you need to go to the Devices and Printers section in the God Mode folder.

How to Enable God Mode in Windows 11

It’s very easy to set up God Mode in Windows 11. But before you do that, you need to ensure that you are logged in to your Windows device as an administrator. To check this, press Win+i to open the Settings app. Then, navigate to Accounts > Your Info. Under your device name, you’ll see the Administrator tag indicating that you are logged in as an administrator.

You need to enable the administrator account in case the Settings app shows that you aren’t logged in as an administrator. Once you have done that, go to the desktop or any other location where you want to create the God Mode folder. Right-click an empty space, click “New,” and then choose “Folder” from the menu that appears. Name the folder GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C} and hit Enter.

The folder will automatically change its icon to the Control Panel icon. Open the God Mode folder, and you will find all the important settings organized by Control Panel applet. There are sections like Date and Time, Color Management, Autoplay, and more, each containing the relevant settings.

You can access the setting you want by simply double-clicking it. It’s important to know that certain settings in this folder, such as some of the Devices and Printers section settings, have been moved to the Settings app. They will open in the Settings app window instead of launching in the classic Control Panel.

Change the God Mode Folder Icon

As aforementioned, Windows represents the God Mode folder with the Control Panel icon. But wouldn’t it be better if you could use something more memorable? To do this, you need to change the process of creating the God Mode folder.

Navigate to the location where you want to create the God Mode folder. Right-click an empty space, select “New,” and then choose “Shortcut.” In the location field, type explorer shell:::{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}, and click “Next.” Name the folder God Mode, and click “Finish.”

Then, visit the Iconfinder website and search for a God icon. The results will show both paid and free icons. Since I don’t want to spend money on a mere icon, I choose “Free” from the left sidebar so the results only show the free icons.

Free option on the Iconfinder website.

Next, choose an icon of your choice, switch to the “Other” tab, click “ICO,” and then click the “Download in ICO” button.

Dowload in ICO option in iconfinder website.

Once the icon is downloaded, right-click the God Mode shortcut you created, and choose “Properties” from the context menu. Click Change Icon > Browse, select the icon you downloaded, and finally, click “OK.”

That was all about Windows God Mode. After creating it, if I need to make any changes to my computer, I simply open the God Mode folder instead of searching for the option in the Control Panel or the Settings app.
