Big and Heavy But Packed With Ports

It’s easy to look at the EcoFlow Delta 3 Ultra Plus and mistake it for the prior Delta 3 Ultra or Delta Pro models, as they’re very similar. The confusing names don’t help, either. However, this new model has a gray housing, chrome accents, and a bunch of internal (and app-based) improvements. The Ultra Plus has the same size battery, output rating, and more. Still, it’s scalable up to 11kWh with expansion battery packs, doubles the solar input rating, and has several new features you can use with the dedicated EcoFlow app.

The Delta 3 Ultra Plus is a large power station you probably won’t take outside your home. Sure, it’s “portable,” it has wheels, and there’s an excellent suitcase-style handle, but at 613.1mm x 327.71mm x 394.95mm (24×12.9×15.5 inches) and over 75 lb, it’s big and heavy.

On the front, you’ll find a big display, three buttons for turning on the power to each side of the AC outlets, and all the AC ports themselves. The four main AC ports are 20A and perfect for powering a fridge, Wi-Fi router, lights, and other gadgets or household appliances. Then, there’s a 5th 120V 30A 3-pin AC port for bigger devices like a washer, dryer, or RV. And with a 30A outlet, it should easily run smaller RVs.

There are also four USB ports you can use instead of taking up an AC outlet. Those include one 140W USB Type-C connector, two Type-C ports with a shared 45W output, and one USB Type-A port with 18W. These are excellent for charging phones, laptops, drones, game consoles, and anything you’ll charge or power via USB.

Overall, this is a pretty standard affair for a power station, and it’s nearly identical to the outgoing Delta 3 Ultra. While I’d love 1–2 more AC outlets, most people won’t be plugging that many things into the machine simultaneously.

Up front is the main display, and it’s okay. While I love how much information about input, output, which ports are active, fan usage, and Eco mode it displays, the screen itself isn’t that great. It’s hard to see in direct sunlight, and when you look close enough, you’ll see all the screen elements and dark spots for other display information not currently being shown.

Above the screen, you’ll find three buttons: power, AC1 for the ports on the left, and AC2 for the three AC ports on the right. AC1 enables all the USB ports. Aside from an AC charging speed toggle switch on the back, these are the only buttons. I’d love more control over the unit without downloading the EcoFlow app, but that’s the only way to control anything else.

The Ultra Plus easily pairs to a phone or tablet via Bluetooth, and you can also connect it to your home Wi-Fi for cloud monitoring and controls. But more on that in a moment.

Everything else you’ll interact with is around the back. There is an AC input for charging, a charging speed toggle switch, solar panel inputs, and a 12V DC (cigarette port) output capable of 378W. The DC output doubles as the Anderson port for select appliances and RVs.

As you can see in the image below, the suitcase-style telescoping handle is durable and made of metal. It makes a huge difference when it comes to lugging this thing around. Don’t break your back trying to carry it, and use the handle and wheels instead.

Tons of Power, and Expandable If You Need It

The Delta 3 Ultra Plus isn’t endless power on wheels, but it’s close. Thanks to the massive 3072Wh LFP battery that delivers 3600W of power, you can charge or power almost anything, anywhere. It’s one of the easiest ways to expand power to all your most important devices, whether during a blackout, brownout, or in an emergency.

During my testing, the Delta 3 Ultra Plus easily handled everything I threw at it. I plugged in a laptop, my phone charger, and a Keurig machine, and it handled it with no problem. For those unaware, things like a coffee machine, microwave, or hairdryer will require way more power than a fridge, especially at first, to power the heating element.

EcoFlow’s unit can easily power devices up to 3600W, like a washer or dryer. It’ll even temporarily “surge” to over 7000W for larger appliances that need a little boost at first but then run at a lower wattage. Most power stations offer this, but it’s nice to see it work in person.

I plugged the Ultra Plus into my garage fridge, the protector of my cold ones, and it kept the fridge running for nearly two days, even in a hot garage that’s not temperature-controlled. As a result, I’m confident it’ll handle appliances inside the house during a power outage.

The original Delta 3 Ultra wasn’t expandable, so that’s a big selling point for this new Delta 3 Ultra Plus. On the back, an expansion port allows multiple expansion battery packs or another Delta 3 Ultra Plus to daisy-chain, bringing your total power from 3kWh to 11kWh. You can also plug it into your home’s manual transfer switch. If you need to power an entire house or want the option to expand in the future, you’ll want the Ultra Plus.

Ports on the back are covered with flap doors, similar to other power banks, but they neatly fold down and slide into the machine and out of the way. It’s a small thing, but also one of my favorite design aspects. My Goal Zero Yeti Pro 4000 already had a cover break, because it’s always in the way. And Anker’s flaps never stay shut after the first few uses. Take note, guys.

The EcoFlow App and Customization

What makes the Ultra Plus stand out above the outgoing model is its expandability, double solar input at 1600W, and a few features inside the app that you’ll love. Download the app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store, then use features like “Smart Output Priority” to choose which AC circuits stay powered at crucial times, prioritizing essential items for extended run times.

If you want remote access or some of the app’s other features, you create an account, pair it over Bluetooth, and connect it to the cloud via Wi-Fi.

Once done, there’s a helpful “Storm Guard” mode, which uses Wi-Fi. As long as the unit is plugged in and a storm is coming, it’ll know, and recharge at the fastest speed to ensure you have a full battery ready to go.

When you go to recharge the Delta 3 Ultra Plus itself, it’ll only recharge at 200W. The screen said it would take 3 days, but you can flip a switch on the back to access the full 1800W recharge power, which takes about 1 hour and 40 minutes. EcoFlow claims it’ll take 89 minutes, but mine was a little slower than that. As a warning, I switched it to the full 1800W, and it killed my 1800W-capable GFCI outlet in the garage. Maybe I had a bad GFCI, but I’d recommend a regular wall outlet just to be safe.

The only way to charge it at a different speed is with the companion app, where you can set custom levels. I have it set for 1000W, which is fast enough for most situations. Other app features include overload protection, charge and discharge limits to improve long-term battery health, and remote access via the cloud. Overall, I am pleased with the app’s design, usability, and features.

Should You Buy the EcoFlow Delta 3 Ultra Plus?

So, with endless power station options on the market, should you buy the Ultra Plus? Well, that depends on your individual wants, budget, and power needs. If you already have anything from EcoFlow, you’ll absolutely love this bigger, expandable, customizable unit. It features EV-grade LFP battery packs that are good for 10 years of use and it comes a 5-year warranty.

The EcoFlow Delta 3 Ultra Plus handled absolutely everything I tried to power. In all my testing, I never had a hiccup, issue, or problem. I’m confident in recommending it to anyone who needs a backup power source for their home. The 20A AC plugs are powerful enough to handle most items; there’s a 120V 30A 3-pin for bigger appliances, and the USB-C ports are blazing fast.

I don’t think I’d take this camping, and something like the smaller Delta 3 Max Plus we just reviewed would be better in that regard. But this is an excellent option for home backup power, RV life, or off-grid living. The wheels and handle are nice, but you’re better off parking it in the garage or a designated spot when the power goes out.

Buy one, then expand your power capabilities in the future when it goes on sale. For example, this unit retails for $2,899 but is currently only $1599 at the EcoFlow website.
