Paramount+ is finally launching a new multiview feature that will let you watch up to four live matches at the same time. That means all the action is happening on your screen at once. This is great if you like soccer, but it should end up on more sports channels soon.
The feature is set to roll out next week, just in time for the start of CBS Sports’ UEFA Champions League season on September 16. This feature will start out exclusive to UEFA matches, which include the Champions League, Europa League, and Europa Conference League competitions. It will also be available on the web across desktop devices at launch. So you’ll be able to create your own custom matchday experience, complete with the ability to select your preferred audio for each stream.
It may be a bit of a letdown to some that this will be exclusive to soccer at first, but I am sure it will expand to other sports soon. Paramount+ likely just wants to capitalize on the UEFA Champions League. The season starts with a special three-day opening week on Tuesday, September 16, so this will be a great time for Paramount+ to test it on fans. Every single UEFA match will be streaming live on Paramount+, and some will also air on CBS Sports Network and CBS Sports Golazo Network.
This is something that other services have had for a while, so it’s great that Paramount+ is finally catching up. It really feels like a long-overdue upgrade, especially for a service that’s heavily invested in live sports. What’s interesting is that the company has already said it plans to expand Multiview to include entertainment and news content in the coming months, which is a great feature to look forward to.
It makes perfect sense to start with live sports, where multiple games are often happening at the same time, giving you a chance to catch every goal and every moment without missing a beat. However, it’d be nice to see what news stations are saying at the same time.
For those of you who have been following the streaming wars, you know this kind of feature is becoming more and more common. We’ve seen YouTube TV expand its multiview beyond sports to channels like Bravo, ESPN, and USA. Even DirecTV has introduced its own “Mix Channels” feature to let you watch four different channels at once, whether it’s for sports or news. So it’s about time Paramount+ got in on the action.
I wouldn’t say that it’s a huge oversight when a streaming service doesn’t offer something like this, but it feels like a necessity when the competition offers it. So, if you’re a soccer fan with a Paramount+ subscription, you can get ready for a much better viewing experience starting next week.
