Samsung has finally lifted the lid on the Galaxy Z Fold 7, the company’s most advanced foldable yet – and quite possibly the most significant update to the series since its debut back in 2019.
Packing a much slimmer, lighter design, top-tier camera hardware borrowed from the Galaxy S25 Ultra and Samsung’s latest AI smarts in One UI 8, this is undoubtedly Samsung’s foldable technology at its very best.
Here’s everything you need to know about the new Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7, including its key specs, pricing, release date, colour options and what makes it such a big step forward for Samsung’s book-style foldable.
If you’re curious about how different it is from last year’s foldable, we’ve also compared the Galaxy Z Fold 7 to the Galaxy Z Fold 6.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 release date and pricing
The Galaxy Z Fold was officially unveiled at Samsung’s July Unpacked event alongside the Galaxy Z Flip 7, with both foldables available for pre-order ahead of release on 25 July 2025.
The Galaxy Z Fold 7 starts at the same £1,799 in the UK with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, though it’s a little pricier in the US than its predecessor at an increased $1,999.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 colours
This year, Samsung is offering the Fold 7 in a more limited, but more premium, colour palette.

You’ve got three standard options to choose from – Blue Shadow, Jetblack and Silver Shadow – alongside a more unique Mint colourway. However, the latter is only available when buying the phone via Samsung’s online storefront.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 design and screens
Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold series has always faced criticism for being too chunky compared to rivals like the Honor Magic V series or the Oppo Find N line. Well, the Fold 7 changes that.
It’s just 8.9mm thick closed – the same as the Find N5 – and only 4.2mm unfolded, while weighing just 215g. That’s lighter than the Galaxy S25 Ultra, and a huge 24g lighter than last year’s Fold 6. It also makes it the lightest foldable of the 2025 entries, including Honor’s upcoming Magic V5.

That doesn’t mean it’s any less durable however; Samsung’s upgraded Armor FlexHinge uses a water droplet design and multi-trail structure to better disperse stress and protect the screen.
There’s also a new grade 4 titanium lattice beneath the foldable screen, alongside a 50% thicker layer of ultra-thin glass to further boost protection. Meanwhile, Gorilla Glass Victus 2 covers the rear, and Ceramic 2 protects the front.
As for the screens themselves, the cover display is now wider – 64.9mm across – with a more natural 21:9 aspect ratio, making it much more usable day-to-day than its taller, narrower predecessor. It’s a larger 6.5-inch LTPO-enabled AMOLED panel with a smooth 120Hz refresh rate and 2600nits peak brightness for comfortable outdoor use.

Inside, the foldable screen has expanded from 7.6 inches to 8 inches, while offering the same high-end AMOLED Dynamic 2X technology and brightness levels as the cover screen. The new hinge also means the crease is shallower and much less distracting than that of the Z Fold 6, though it’s still faintly visible if you’re actively looking for it.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 cameras
Foldables have long lagged behind slab phones when it comes to camera hardware, but the Galaxy Z Fold 7 goes some way to closing this gap.
It features the same 200MP main camera as the Galaxy S25 Ultra, though likely a slimmer variant closer to the S25 Edge’s variant. Samsung claims it’s 44% brighter with 4x more detail than the 50MP main camera of the previous generation.

The 10MP 3x telephoto and 12MP ultrawide make a return, but with improved lenses. The ultrawide can now handle macro shots, and bigger pixels means a claimed 56% boost to low-light performance.
Selfies also get some focus this year. Samsung has finally ditched the terrible under-display camera on the internal foldable screen for a regular 10MP selfie snapper. The cover screen also sports a 10MP snapper, though this one has a wider 100-degree field of view for better angles in group shots and video calls.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 specs and software
Powering the top-end foldable experience is the custom Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy, the same chipset you’ll find in the S25 Ultra – not the new Exynos 2500 seen in the Galaxy Z Flip 7.
That’s paired with 12GB of RAM as standard, but the 1TB model bumps that to a hefty 16GB, providing plenty of headroom for multitasking and more demanding apps in future.

Samsung’s One UI 8, based on Android 16, brings improvements to its growing suite of AI features. That includes upgrades to Google tech, with Circle to Search now working in games and Gemini offering an optimised layout for the large inner screen.
Galaxy AI features have also undergone an upgrade, including a new side-by-side photo editing view and improved audio eraser technology, now usable in voice notes, video playback, and call transcripts.
The only potential downside is battery life; at 4400mAh, it’s the same cell as last year’s Fold 6 – despite the larger screens and more powerful internals. Samsung claims efficiency gains will deliver up to 24 hours of video playback, but that’s something we’ll have to test in the real world.
