JBL has just revealed the new Boombox 4, the newest version of its portable waterproof speaker. It supports multi-speaker connections with Auracast, two different Bass Boost settings, and an impressive battery life, all while being a lot lighter than its predecessor.
One of the biggest additions is the “AI Sound Boost.” This will analyze your music in real time, adjusting the sound to give you more power and less distortion, even when you crank the volume all the way up. The Boombox 4 now packs two woofers, two tweeters, and three passive radiators.
What’s cool about it is that this new audio construction replaces the single subwoofer from the previous model, so every track hits harder and sounds cleaner. It’s a noticeable difference, especially when you compare it to the last Boombox. In fact, JBL says the Boombox 4 has almost 50% more output power when it’s running on battery, which is a pretty huge jump and great for parties that need to push sound further.
JBL put the Bass Boost feature in these speakers, but this time it comes with two custom modes to match your vibe. The classic JBL signature bass is always there, but if you want to take it deeper, you can hit the Bass Boost button once to enter Deep Bass mode.
If you’re looking for something tighter and more energetic for those upbeat tracks, you can tap the button twice for Punchy Bass mode. The JBL horn logo on the speaker even glows white or orange depending on which mode you’re in. That’s a nice little touch, but it doesn’t really give you better sound quality.
The new Boombox 4 is also more portable thanks to how light weight it is. It’s almost 2 lbs lighter than its predecessor, making it way easier to carry wherever the party goes. Even with the lighter build, it’s still IP68 waterproof and dustproof, so you don’t have to worry about the weather or clumsy friends ruining your music. However, keep in mind that it is small so you don’t want to treat it like a wrecking ball.
For those who want to hear every detail in their music, the Boombox 4 now supports lossless audio playback. All you have to do is plug it into your laptop or other audio device using the USB-C port, and you can enjoy high-quality sound without any compression. The Boombox 4 also has Auracast built in, which lets you effortlessly stereo pair two Boombox 4 speakers for a wider sound stage or connect multiple Auracast-enabled JBL speakers to cover more ground with the same playlist.
With up to 34 hours of playtime, thanks to the Playtime Boost feature, you’re set for the long haul. The battery is also now replaceable, which means you can extend the life of your speaker even more. The JBL Boombox 4 is available for pre-sale now on the official website for $550 in black, blue, or squad, with a wider release coming on September 28, 2025.
