“I See You” is one of those movies best experienced firsthand. Its surprises and turns are so integral to the story that describing the plot comes dangerously close to spoilers. Still, it’s a dark, thrilling, and cleverly twisty thriller, perfect for sparking discussion.
Now that it’s been added to Prime Video (as of September 1), I feel the need to have my own conversation about it, because this psychological thriller is something special.
“I See You” first premiered at the SXSW Film Festival back in 2019 before getting a theatrical release a few months later. Sadly, it was one of the lowest-grossing releases of the year, and since then has become somewhat overlooked in the thriller genre despite its strong Rotten Tomatoes score.
With its arrival on Prime Video in the U.S. I’m hoping it gets the attention it deserves, because, despite watching it more than once, I still get surprised by the twists and how cleverly the story is told.
Add in Helen Hunt and a chilling kidnapping mystery, mixed with strange occurrences in a home, and you’ve got yourself a mind-twisting experience. So, here’s why you should add “I See You” to your Prime Video watchlist now.

“I See You” follows small-town detective Greg Harper (Jon Tenney) as he investigates the troubling disappearance of a young boy, a case that becomes more confounding with each passing day.
At the same time, Greg’s personal life is in turmoil: his wife, Jackie (Helen Hunt), has recently been unfaithful, and their teenage son, Connor (Judah Lewis), struggles to come to terms with the betrayal, creating a tense household.
As the investigation progresses, the Harper home begins to experience increasingly strange events. Everyday objects vanish or appear in impossible places, doors and rooms behave unpredictably, and unexplained noises echo through the house, leaving the family unsettled and questioning their own reality.
While pursuing leads on the missing boy, Greg uncovers a connection to a string of child abductions from years ago, hinting that the past may hold essential answers.
‘I See You’ is a suspenseful brain-teaser that rewards careful attention
It’s not easy to come across a horror-thriller that genuinely surprises anymore. Haunted houses, hidden family secrets, deceptive ghosts, and spectral twists have all been done in one way or another.
Yet every so often, a movie rises above these familiar tropes by being carefully plotted, cleverly layered, and consistently tense, keeping you fully absorbed until you’re surprised to see the credits. Adam Randall’s twisty psychological thriller “I See You” is one of those rare finds, and it’s one that has, unfortunately, been overlooked.
I discovered this movie a few years ago and have recommended it to friends repeatedly, especially as the spooky season approaches. And I always say the same thing: “I See You” delivers some of the best twists ever presented on screen, and my only dilemma now is that I don’t want to give too much away.
But for context, there are several compelling reasons to add this to your Prime Video watchlist. One reason is that it starts off as a mystery, with an early scene showing a young boy snatched from his bike. Immediately, you have a reason to keep watching.
The movie then shifts into a family drama, revealing that Hunt’s character has had an affair, creating plenty of awkward tension that’s almost cringeworthy. From there, it veers into something reminiscent of “Paranormal Activity” before transforming into a full-blown crime thriller, essentially covering multiple genres in just 98 minutes. It’s clever stuff.
In the movie’s second half, “I See You” revisits earlier events from a new perspective, moving into a more grounded, psychological style of horror that culminates in a shocking twist. This type of storytelling is one of the many reasons why I love it.
Most of all, “I See You” never stops being suspenseful, and the movie rewards viewers with plenty of twists that answer lingering questions.
But while the narrative structure is its strongest asset, some aspects (including the performances) fall a bit short. Hunt is underused in favor of amplifying the twists, which is the only notable weakness. If anything though, the understated performances help keep the focus on the bigger picture: the movie’s shifting perspectives.
I’m glad “I See You” is now streaming on Prime Video, as it deserves more attention. With Halloween approaching, it’s sure to become a spooky favorite for many (I hope). For a smart, suspenseful thriller packed with chills, surprises, and a brilliantly twisty story, this one is a must-watch.
