Scottie added last weekend’s BMW Championship to his haul of four tour wins this season – including two majors – and is far and away the top point scorer in this year’s FedEx Cup. But, unlike previous years, that means absolutely naught as the 30 last men standing head into the Tour Championship. Forget the staggered starts… it’s a straightforward 72-hole shoot-out to see who will be crowned this year’s FedEx Cup champion and take home the $10 million top prize.
Rory McIlroy started as one of the men most likely to stop Scheffler, although his season has never again reached the heights of his Masters victory in April. The likes of Tommy Fleetwood, Ben Griffin, Russell Henley, Maverick McNealy, Justin Rose and J. J. Spaun have all shown decent form leading up to this one and will hope to be in contention by the time it comes to Sunday evening.
And it’s Fleetwood and Henley who share the lead at the halfway point, with Cameron Young, Patrick Cantlay and Robert MacIntyre hot on their heels. Scheffler may be five shots off the lead, but that’s plenty close enough to be a threat as the players head into moving day.
